I am trained as a Relational Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, which means that my number one focus in our sessions is to build a trusting, safe relationship with you. We know from research that the majority of problems people seek counseling for come from some kind of relationship injury. With this in mind, it makes sense that the patterns those injuries created in our lives to adapt and survive would eventually show up in the therapeutic relationship. I focus on learning those patterns from the stories you share with me in our sessions, past and present. When we can

Hi, I'm Kendra.

I fell in love with the field of Psychology in my undergraduate studies at Washington State University. It helped me make sense of the chaotic experiences I had in childhood more than anything else I had ever encountered, including within the church. I served in Ministry during and after college, which provided me with an amazing foundation of Biblical knowledge, discipleship and leadership training, as well as a value for doing work that provides hope for people who are hurting. Eventually I found myself working for a local women and children's homeless shelter, and I continuously found that despite regular chapel meetings, ministry care, and lay-person counseling training, the people we were serving needed more than a short-term service to break free of the bondage of homelessness (ie., addiction, mental illness, poverty, domestic violence, and all kinds of trauma). This is what motivated me to further my education in Psychology and go for my Masters in Counseling Psychology. Since graduating in 2013, I have provided counseling services to populations of all kinds, and have found that I'm most effective with adult women who have a background of trauma, often sexual trauma. More often than not, these women also struggle with addiction, eating disorders, or other mental health problems as well.

With this in mind, it makes sense that the patterns those injuries created in our lives to adapt and survive would eventually show up in the therapeutic relationship. I focus on learning those patterns from the stories you share with me in our sessions, past and present. When we can learn to recognize the patterns, we can begin applying a variety of skills, tools, and techniques to change and heal those adaptations. My clients have told me over the years that they appreciate my interactive style of counseling, as I ask a lot of questions and provide a lot of feedback in the form of observations and connections I'm making. I'm not afraid to interrupt, challenge, and poke your buttons to nudge you toward healing when you need it, but I also won't let you push past what you can manage.
